International Travel

International travel is restricted due to COVID-19

Parents, carers and staff may discuss with education leaders international travel plans that affect them and their families. General information is provided below for information, but it is the responsibility of adults to ensure that they and their dependents abide by the regulations for international travel. Staff within education settings should plan any travel arrangements to ensure that they meet the requirements of their employer with respect to availability for work.

  • There is guidance for British people travelling abroad during the coronavirus pandemic, if they are legally permitted to travel under current UK COVID-19 restrictions.
  • Regulations differ depending on the country of departure, countries travelled through, country of arrival, and who the traveller is. The international travel guidance for England is found here.  The government is rating countries and territories as either red, amber or green and people must observe the rules related to the rating of the country or territories they have travelled through.
  • Some countries have closed borders, some may require travellers to quarantine, and any country may further restrict travel or bring in new social distancing rules with little warning. The government publishes the latest travel advice by country or territory.
  • The government has provided guidance about the steps involved in international travel. This is to enable travellers to forward plan, identifying the additional arrangements, completing required documentation and pre-booking testing or quarantine accommodation as appropriate.  Travel abroad: step by step
