Framework for developing a Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy
This information is intended to support private, voluntary and independent early years and childcare providers.
The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage Section 3 states:
3.4 Providers must be alert to any issues of concern in the child’s life at home or elsewhere. Providers must have and implement a policy, and procedures, to safeguard children.
Warwickshire County Council's Early Years Adviser Team have created a framework for developing a safeguarding and child protection policy (PDF, 805 KB).
This framework has been created to support providers (childminders, leaders, managers, owners, proprietors, committee members, and trustees) to develop or review their safeguarding policies and procedures. It is not a policy per se, rather it is an overview of good practice and key information.
Providers are free to use all or parts of this document, however the wording may need to be amended to suit the context or policy style of the individual setting.
The framework provides links to legislation and guidance; should they wish to do so, providers can source further information to incorporate into the policy and procedures. Key points for consideration are highlighted in yellow throughout the document.
